This magnificent museum specimen shows several spherical yellow prehnite agglomerates on a matrix of graphite with pyrite, calcite and some tanzanite.

Prehnite is not a rare mineral per se, but collectible crystals of this silicate with its beautiful color are rare. The best crystals come from Mererani in Tanzania, where excellent collector specimens of yellow, green and even blue prehnite can be found, some of which are associated with other minerals such as tanzanite and thus attract the attention of collectors internationally with their unusual paragenesis. Blue prehnite has not been found for several years. Only a few remaining stocks are available from local dealers.
