We were able to acquire a large lot of excellent crystals of this rare mineral. The partially hexagonal crystals are mostly completely black and exhibit an attractive star-shaped luster on the crystal faces, reminiscent of trapiche crystals. This very large hibonite has everything that makes this find special: a beautiful hexagonal crystal with star reflections on the end faces and a distinct layered structure. A top-notch piece!

Hibonite is a very rare mineral, specifically a CaAl oxide, which may also contain cerium, titanium, and magnesium, as well as traces of uranium or thorium (slightly radioactive). The mineral has also been found in several meteorites. The mostly black (sometimes brown), hexagonal crystals possess a very high hardness (Mohs = 7.5-8).
