After years without any notable finds, two pockets of extremely rare green tanzanite were discovered in early 2025, most of which we were able to acquire. Unfortunately, most of the translucent to clear pieces were crushed by the "cobbers" in Mererani to be resold to the jewelry industry. Therefore, the number of complete transparent crystals is very small, and we sometimes had to purchase fragments. Interestingly, the green tanzanites exhibit different end faces than common tanzanites; they are also often etched. The colors of the crystals range from dark to olive to blue-green. A larger, mostly dark blue crystal, which also exhibits green areas depending on the direction of the incident light. It has partially smooth side faces with excellent luster, but also the etched (end) faces typical of this find.

The Maasai worship tanzanite as the “crystal of heaven”, which is only found in an area of 16 square kilometers in the East African country of Tanzania that gives it its name. Its rarity and incomparable richness of color make it one of the most sought-after gemstones on the market. Unmistakable due to its unique trichroism, depending on the light, it sparkles in a wide variety of colors from deep blue to bright yellow to bright red and violet.
