Good to excellent rutile crystals were found this year in the tanzanite mines near Mererani. We were able to secure the entire find. A rutile with side faces and some matrix residues.

Rutile belongs to the oxide mineral group and is chemically titanium dioxide (TiO2). It crystallizes in the tetragonal crystal system and has a hardness of slightly more than six on the Mohs scale. The crystals are brown, reddish-brown, or beige in color and usually have a silvery luster.
