Spodumene is a lithium aluminum silicate and belongs to the pyroxene group (banded silicates). The mineral crystallizes in the monoclinic crystal system and has a Mohs hardness of 6.5-7. The different color appearances are interesting: Chromium inclusions lead to a green coloration (hiddenite), while manganese deposits lead to pink-violet crystals (kunzite). Colorless crystals are also called triphane. Bicolored crystals also exist and have a high collector value.
