Fluorite

Fluorite (CaF2) is a fairly common gangue mineral and crystallizes in the cubic crystal system. Its relatively low hardness (Mohs: 4) makes it uninteresting for the jewelry industry. However, the mineral is very diverse in color and is therefore popular with many collectors.

Malaimbandy is located about 250 km west of Antsirabe as the crow flies. Apatite is found in marble in the area. The place is less well known as a fluorite deposit.
