Rarity! A partially facetable, blue but untreated, typically spindle-shaped Sapphire. Despite its size, it is fully developed and intact except for a small damage on the side, both points are undamaged! Beautiful silky matt shine. This quality of Sapphire is almost impossible to obtain outside of Sri Lanka, as a regulation prohibits the export of cuttable crystals. These are therefore normally fired and cut in the country, only then can they be exported at a significantly higher tax rate. During the firing process, the crystals become darker in blue and clearer.

Sapphire, a variety of corundum, includes colorless and variegated variations, excluding rubies. The term usually refers to the blue variants with varying shades. Sapphires crystallize in the trigonal system as double-pointed, barrel-shaped six-sided crystals with Al2O3 composition. The main producers were Sri Lanka and India. The USA (Montana), Australia and Nigeria have recently been added. Madagascar supplies high quality sapphires, often sold as coming from Sri Lanka. Production in Australia has now fallen sharply again.
