Diopside is one of the lesser-known minerals due to its abundance. Attractive crystals and, more rarely, specimens (usually in paragenesis with other minerals) are found; in the case of Chrome Diopside - as found in Mererani - also in lime green to grass green. These grass green crystals are available on the market at very different prices... Diopside belongs to the band silicates and crystallizes in the monoclinic crystal system. The mineral has an average hardness of 5.5-6.5 (Mohs). Under long-wave UV light, Diopside glows bluish, Chrome Diopside glows slightly pink.
