This beautiful dark red Ruby has larger shiny crystal faces and complete end faces (one larger and several smaller ones). It is partially transparent and glows bright red under UV light. The area behind the main end face also has several small crystal faces, so it is not damaged or damage is healed (photo 3).

Rubies are red varieties of corundum (chemically aluminum oxide (Al2O3)). The red color is caused by small amounts of chromium ions. Rubies crystallize in the trigonal crystal system, have a Mohs hardness of 9 and glow intensely red under UV light.
Rubies are found worldwide, with some of the most significant locations being in Myanmar, Thailand, Sri Lanka, Madagascar and Tanzania.
