Ein paar sehr schöne schwarze kleine Sphene ergeben auf dieser Kleinstufe einen schönen Kontrast zum grünen Diopsid und zum weißen Calcit.

Sphen oder Titanit ist in Tansania meist gelb-bräunlich bis grünlich gefärbt, kommt aber mitunter in handgroßen Kristallen vor. Das Kalzium-Titan-Silikat kristallisiert im monoklinen Kristallsystem und Zwillingsbildung ist recht häufig. Sphen besitzt nur eine mittlere Härte (Mohs: 5-5,5).
